The video presents a pilot that combines free electric vehicle (EV) charging with advanced energy management technologies, showcasing how airports can become smart energy hubs. As part of the DriVe2X project, the premium parking area P0 at Porto Airport will offer free EV charging to drivers of 100% electric vehicles. By simply booking online and selecting the “Free EV Charging” option, eligible users will be able to access this service while contributing to a more sustainable energy ecosystem.
What makes this demo unique is the integration of smart and bidirectional charging (V2G – Vehicle-to-Grid) technologies. This means EVs don’t just receive energy from the grid, they can also return it when demand spikes, helping balance the system in real time. It’s a forward-looking solution that highlights the role of mobility in supporting the energy transition.
The DriVe2X pilot at Porto Airport is not only about convenience, it’s about testing how EVs, smart infrastructure, and renewable energy can work together efficiently. This use case will demonstrate how digital tools can optimise consumption, avoid grid overloads, and support the integration of renewables.
