ASM Terni S.p.A. has recently published a study on optimizing waste collection fleets through electrification and smart routing. Conducted within the framework of the DriVe2X project, the research explores how integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into municipal solid waste collection can reduce operational costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
The study, based on a real-world case in Narni, Italy, applies advanced vehicle routing optimization to enhance efficiency and sustainability. It evaluates different electrification scenarios (from 20% to 100%) and optimizes EV charging schedules using decision-support algorithms. Findings show that fleet electrification significantly cuts emissions and fuel expenses, supporting the transition to greener urban logistics.
This work underscores the DriVe2X project’s commitment to advancing sustainable mobility solutions by integrating intelligent transport systems and electrified fleets into real-world operations. Stay tuned for more updates as DriVe2X continues to drive innovation in urban sustainability.
