UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD
R&I in Self-Sustaining Communities and Businesses and Isle of Wight Demo
Led by Professor Vahid Vahidinasab, the University of Salford’s team work on groundbreaking research advancing net-zero energy systems that empower local communities and businesses to become self-sufficient, resilient, and sustainable. The team is developing advanced modelling and optimization solutions centered on bidirectional electric vehicles (EVs), enabling local households, buildings, and communities to manage their energy use, reduce costs, and improve operational resilience. Through a portfolio of cutting-edge research and innovation projects supporting the transition to a sustainable future, the Salford team is creating practical and scalable solutions for sustainable, secure, and affordable energy systems. A key focus of the team in the DriVe2X project is unlocking new revenue opportunities and value streams for local communities and businesses through smart charging and grid-responsive flexibility services enabled by bidirectional EVs. The Salford team plays a critical role across multiple work packages on the technical, economic, and social aspects, ensuring that future energy systems are not only technically robust but also just, inclusive, sustainable, and future-ready for mass EV integration.
